Roman theatre


Roman theatre had elemets of its own such as Satire combined with strong elements acquired from Greek theatre.
Roman theaters increasingly made use of free standing arches, freeing them from the need of using existing hillsides as had been done by the Greeks.

An image of the Theatre of Balbus: Roman theatre architecture developed into its own through the development of free-standing arches. This meant that it was no longer dependent on the use of hillsides on which to create the seating areas and altogether freed the structure into something which could be more readily incorporated into urban architecture.
