This is a drawing taken from a clay figurine of a gladiator. These gladiator figurines were quite common as a sort of souvenir at Gladiatorial events. I find the gladiator sword this gladiator carries particularly interesting: it’s like an arm and hand! Note the strapped arm and small shield. This gladiator wears shin-guards too.
The armour and weapons used by individual Galdiators was precisely according to certain gladiator types. This particular Gladiator is of the Thracian class.
