It should suffice to say that the word “Architect” has a latin root and is linked to the notion of building arches and structures. Ancient Roman ability to create arches of varying complexity was an essential element of their architecture. The discovery of new building technologies, like pozzolanic concrete and the various ways in which it could be employed enabled monumental structures which had never been possible before, nor were achieved for over a millennium later.
